This course focuses on building inclusivity which is one of the critical core skills identified by SkillsFuture Singapore. This would also prepare the adult educators, organisations and workforce to understand persons with disabilities in the learning environment and how to conduct learning to support them in learning in light of the enactment of workplace fairness legislation in second half of 2024.

What Is The Session About?

The 2-day course aims to equip workplace leaders, HR professionals, educators, and team managers with the necessary skills and strategies to create an inclusive learning environment for employees with disabilities. Participants will explore a range of inclusive practices, accommodation strategies, and communication approaches aimed at facilitating effective learning and growth within diverse workplace settings.


What Does The Session Cover?

The 2-day course focuses on fostering inclusivity and accommodating employees with disabilities.

Day 1 covers the basics, including defining inclusivity, exploring its benefits, and introducing strategies for accommodating employees with disabilities. It also delves into the legal framework, reasonable accommodations, ethical considerations, and understanding diverse disabilities with case studies and effective strategies.
 

Day 2 continues with sessions on implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL), communication strategies tailored for different disabilities, and cultivating supportive workplace communities. It also includes designing personalised learning plans, tailoring training programmes, and assessing progress. The course ends with addressing evaluation and continuous improvement, discussing measurement of success, feedback collection, and the development of a roadmap for sustaining inclusive practices in workplace learning, referencing the criteria in Enabling Mark by SG Enable.
 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Define the significance of inclusive learning environments within workplace, specifically in supporting employees with disabilities
Apply legal frameworks and rights, including reasonable accommodations, to effectively support employees with disabilities in a work-based learning context
Recognise between various disabilities, understanding their unique learning requirements and challenges in a workplace setting
Explore Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to design and implement accessible and inclusive learning materials, environments, and tools within the workplace
Building supportive networks and communities within the workplace to foster an inclusive environment for all employees, regardless of ability
Assess the effectiveness of implemented inclusive strategies and formulate plans for continuous improvement and sustainability in workplace learning
Develop effective communication strategies to engage and support employees with diverse disabilities in workplace learning activities
Develop personalised learning plans and accommodations tailored to meet the diverse needs of empliyees with disabilities in a work-based learning setting.

Payment

Please proceed to make payment via eNets/credit card (VISA or MasterCard) at the end of the registration process. Kindly note that the system will automatically cancel the registration if full payment has not been successfully processed by 11.59pm (Singapore Time) on the same day of the registration. You will have to reapply for the course, subject to availability of vacancy at the point of your re-registration.

Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset the selected programmes' fees for self-sponsored registrations only.


Please note the submission period for your SFC claim via MySkillsFuture needs to be within 60 days before the course start date (date inclusive). If your course start date is more than 60 days from the date of SFC application, the SSG-SFC portal would reject your application. In this case, you would need to pay the full course fees at the end of your course application.

Rescheduling

Request for rescheduling must be submitted to IAL 2 weeks before the commencement of programme. Reschedule requests that come mid-way through training has to be supported by valid reasons; substantiated by references as evidence; such as a doctor's note; or a hospitalization chit.

Withdrawal

Request for withdrawal from a programme is subjected to review by IAL and the decision is final. IAL reserves the right to request for supporting document(s). A non-refundable administration fee of S$54.00 w/GST ($50) is applicable for withdrawal request. If the withdrawal notice is given less than 2 weeks before the programme start date, the paid fees will not be refunded.


Corporate Run

For dedicated corporate runs with a contract signed with IAL, billing and payment will follow the terms of the signed contract. Otherwise, payment would be expected upon registration.

About The Speaker

Kris Loy (Ms)

Learning Facilitator and Consultant

Kris is a seasoned professional with over 24 years of expertise in HR development, business advisory and consultancy, and adult education. Her multifaceted roles include serving as facilitator, courseware developer, and consultant across training providers. Her recent engagements include contributing to a focal agency in Singapore as an associate assessor, facilitator, and consultant, focusing on inclusive employability. Additionally, she holds an adjunct lecturer position for a Master's programme at a local university. Kris' leadership extends further as she assumes the co-chair position at IAL’s AEN Special Interest Group, emphasising the importance of critical core skills in the Adult Education community.

Her collaborative efforts span various sectors, including continuing education and training, early childhood care, construction, food services, hospitality, landscape, private education, retail, accounting, and transport. Particularly noteworthy is her decade-long commitment to supporting the retail sector's people development needs through tailored education and training programmes. Kris has been actively involved in workplace learning and related initiatives, contributing significantly to over 40 projects across sectors in the last 8 years. Being ACTA/DACE certified, she is also involved in WSQ courseware development for various sectors, including interaction skills to commuters with special needs in the public transport sector and critical core skills development for human resource sector.

Kris brings a wealth of qualifications to her practice, with certifications such as IHRP Certified Professional, Certified Career Practitioner and Singapore Certified Management Consultant. She holds degrees including a Master of Arts in Lifelong Learning (IOE, UCL), a Graduate Diploma in System Analysis (ISS, NUS) and Bachelor of Science in Management (UOM). Her commitment to professional development is evident through certifications as a Workplace Learning Specialist, Specialist Adult Educator, and roles as an AE Mentor and Career Advisor, guiding professionals in the TAE sector. Past appointments as a SkillsFuture Mentor and Business Advisor (with ESG) underscore her extensive contributions to SMEs. Kris’ diverse skills set, coupled with her dedication to continuous learning and mentoring, positions her as a dynamic force in HR development, adult education, and consultancy.
