What Is The Session About?

Generative AI has revolutionized the way we work and learn, demanding not only the application of knowledge but also the ability to pre-empt and innovate. As workplaces evolve amidst dynamic organizational practices and technological advancements, adult educators must adapt to meet emerging learning challenges head-on.

This course introduces a unique pedagogical approach centered around DELETE™, an error-based learning methodology developed by Dr. Michael Choy. DELETE™, detailed in his book of the same title, serves as the foundation for curriculum design, aiming to create training that mirrors the complexity of real-world job roles. Unlike traditional approaches that focus solely on teaching competencies, DELETE™ evaluates and cultivates competence by emphasizing the capacity to respond to diverse situations with heightened metacognition and predictive capabilities.

To ensure that the participants have a strong foundation in the understanding of error-based learning, the focus of the course will be on application of the DELETE concepts learned. A game-based learning format with errors infused will be used to deepen the discussions, negotiations and learning in the workshop.

Key topics include:
  • Why error-based learning design is critical to drive capability development in the workplace context of disruptive transformation.
  • Errors as indicators of boundaries where rules and concepts operate.
  • The 3 Cs to determining errors for learning design.
  • Key principles to error-based learning designs.
  • Time-based interventions in learning designs to drive dynamic scenarios for metacognitive development.
  • Using ChatGPT optimally to design scenarios with errors infused for effective learning

The course employs a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities to facilitate learning. Participants engage in a game-based learning format infused with errors, fostering deeper discussions, negotiations, and overall learning experiences. Emphasis is placed on practical application, ensuring participants develop a strong foundation in error-based learning concepts.

Upon completion of the course, participants will possess the tools and skills to design and facilitate learning experiences that promote holistic understanding and metacognitive development. They will be equipped with a new pedagogical approach that intentionally incorporates errors into learning processes, fostering the development of cognitive, affective, social, and metacognitive capabilities essential for navigating the complexities of modern workplaces.

What Does The Session Cover?

At the end of the course, you should be able to:
Identify why error-based learning is important to drive metacognitive and predictive capabilities.
Articulate the principles behind error-based learning.
Utilise ChatGPT to design 1 error-based learning scenario.

Who Is It Suitable For?

Adult Educators, lecturers, program heads, those in charge of teaching and learning units.
