What Is The Session About?

Experience the transformative power of Dialogue in the Dark Singapore, located at Ngee Ann Polytehcnic, where you get to immerse yourself in complete darkness, a world without sight, allowing you to experience daily challenges faced by visually impaired individuals. Guided by visually impaired hosts, you will journey through various theme rooms where you will foster deeper understanding and appreciation of different perspectives. This transformative experience will inspire you to approach your interactions with more compassion and empathy.

Through this session, you will be introduced to the Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle, gaining the ability to reflect on the experience and develop strategies to help your learners build confidence in acquiring new skills and knowledge.

These insights are invaluable for adult educators, enabling and empowering you to foster deeper understanding and innovative teaching methods across diverse learning environments.

What Does The Session Cover?

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
 

Explain the Experiential Learning process and emphasise the importance of reflection in the learning journey.
Develop an understanding of using verbal communication elements, such as cues, tone, and pacing, to enhance learning in unfamiliar settings.
Apply facilitation techniques inspired by guides to enrich training sessions.

Ms Tan Hui Leng is a Senior Education Development Specialist at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Centre for Learning and Teaching Excellence. Hui Leng has over 20 years of experience in the Adult Education sector, starting as an instructional designer and in HR T&D before becoming an educator at the Polytechnic. Her current area of work includes professional development of new academic staff for both PET & CET learners (including curriculum development and facilitation of learning), Workplace coaching and research into the use of Gen AI for Adult learners.
