What Is The Session About?

If you're still finding public speaking challenging despite previous training, it could be that you need a course tailored to your unique needs to achieve the results you’re aiming for. "Command the Room” is a highly interactive course that, unlike other courses, identifies your weaknesses from the start and employs three key phonetic techniques to fast-track your speech mastery. By focusing on your specific areas for improvement, you will quickly gain the confidence and the influence you need to command any room. This is the only speech training course in Singapore that leverages phonetic principles to unlock your full speaking potential.

This course is designed to enhance participants' public speaking skills. It covers a wide range of topics, from basic phonetics and diction to advanced techniques like pacing, tone, and body language.

1. Phonetic Foundation:
  • Introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)
  • Understanding sound differences based on spelling
  • Practicing accurate phonetic sounds for clear diction
2. Speech Mechanics:
  • Mastering syllable stress for clear pronunciation
  • Learning linking techniques for smooth speech delivery
  • Developing a strong understanding of pace, tone, and filler words
3. Body Language and Delivery:
  • Practicing powerful poses and body language
  • Using storytelling and dynamism for engaging presentations
4. Language Skills:
  • Improving grammar and vocabulary for effective communication
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the necessary skills to deliver confident and impactful speeches.

The delicate differences in speech sounds based on spelling
All 49 symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)
Stressing of multi-syllable words
English speech rules
Applying diction and stress in the correct places of a speech
Learning to link words for fluency and clarity
Using pace, tone and storytelling
Using dynamic body and vocal mastery for greater impact
Importance of grammar and vocabulary in communication

Note: This course is not for beginners. The course will be run like a mini-MBA.

Course Funding and Policies

Payment

Please proceed to make payment via eNets/credit card (VISA or MasterCard) at the end of the registration process. Kindly note that the system will automatically cancel the registration if full payment has not been successfully processed by 11.59pm (Singapore Time) on the same day of the registration. You will have to reapply for the course, subject to availability of vacancy at the point of your re-registration.


Additional Funding Available, If Applicable

Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset the selected programmes' fees for self-sponsored registrations only.


Please note the submission period for your SFC claim via MySkillsFuture needs to be within 60 days before the course start date (date inclusive). If your course start date is more than 60 days from the date of SFC application, the SSG-SFC portal would reject your application. In this case, you would need to pay the full course fees at the end of your course application.



Rescheduling

Request for rescheduling it must be submitted to IAL 2 weeks before the commencement of programme. Reschedule requests that come mid-way through training has to be supported by valid reasons; substantiated by references as evidence; such as a doctor's note; or a hospitalization chit.


Please submit your request to reschedule your course at MyIAL. A non-refundable administrative fee of

S$54.50 w/GST ($50) applies for the request and the next available slot will be offered


Withdrawal

Request for withdrawal from a programme is subjected to review by IAL and the decision is final. IAL reserves the right to request for supporting document(s). A non-refundable administration fee of

S$54.50 w/GST ($50) is applicable for withdrawal request. If the withdrawal notice is given less than 2 weeks before the programme start date, the paid fees will not be refunded.


Corporate Run

For dedicated corporate runs with a contract signed with IAL, billing and payment will follow the terms of the signed contract. Otherwise, payment would be expected upon registration.

Joseph Wong spent 36 years at Standard Chartered Bank managing traditional and innovative banking spanning Retail, Wholesale, Commercial banking, Marketing, Business Re-engineering, ISO9001 accreditation, Process Management, Sales Management, Communication, Micro-learning across the globe.

When he left his banking career in 2015, he was Director of the Wholesale Banking Proposal Management team that responded to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) in Cash Management, Trade Management and Securities Services businesses and developing training programmes in Digital Learning. He planned, designed and created bite-sized (micro) learning to complement classroom learning on sales effectiveness, business writing, storytelling, the art of asking why, and creating powerful presentations which are still being used by employees at Standard Chartered Bank globally.
