Programme Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Organisational Innovation and Change (GCOIC) is a 15-credit unit, 16-week programme comprising three courses focusing on innovation in the light of digital transformation, using data analytics for organisational change and planning for sustainable change.

Programme Highlights

The GCOIC encourages learners to consider innovation, learning and change in the context of digital transformation. Graduates of this Graduate Certificate will not only be able to analyse how decisions driven by digital transformation affect the design and quality of work, or the quality of services and products, but they will also be able to assess the ways in which organisations deal with the challenges. They will collect, analyse and use data in decision making and designing for sustainable change.

The Graduate Certificate is an elective certificate in the Master in Boundary-Crossing Learning and Leadership (MBX) programme, and stackable towards that qualification.

The Graduate Certificate is a core certificate in the Learning, Innovation and Enterprise Leadership track of the Master programme.

The Graduate Certificate consists of 3 courses.

BXL631: Innovation for Enhancing Work, Services and Products

Digital transformation is placing enormous pressures on enterprises, requiring innovation, learning, and change to tackle new issues. The decisions that are made in relation to digital transformation impact the design and quality of work, as well as the quality of services and/or products. This course will focus on innovation, particularly, on what innovation means in the light of digital transformation, the quality of work, and what it means in relation to learning. The course will involve dialoguing with enterprises who are taking on these challenges. These examples will enable learners to examine how digital transformation is impacting their own organisation, the design and quality of work, services and products. Learners will gather evidence from their own or a selected organisation to analyse and propose possibilities for enhancing work, services and/or products.

BXL632: Using Data to Support Organisational Change

The purposes of the collection and use of data in organisations, and the tools used to analyse the data, may be deployed for innovation, development and exploration, or as a means of control of employees. Metrics encompass numerical insights into what is happening as reflective of behaviour; analytics on the other hand, produce more sophisticated insights, such as explaining causes of events and projecting future event occurrence, thus aiding decision making. By applying what learners have learnt so far, they will learn to differentiate between rhetoric and reality in this often vendor-driven field. They will be exposed to HR literature and literature focusing on development and innovation in relation to the use of data and analytics. Using provided case studies and their own or a selected organization, they will evaluate the effectiveness of analytics in relation to learning, innovation and change and strategic purposes.

BXL633: Planning for Sustainable Change

In this course, learners will bring together all that they have learnt so far to design change to support learning and innovation. The selection of the issue they will address is theirs to make. Learners will be constantly challenged by peers, lecturers and other interested parties to justify their analysis of the issue, their design decisions, and to predict issues and challenges and how they will address these. They will provide professional feedback to peers on their designs as an ongoing feature of the course, but also as part of their assessment.
