What Is The Session About?

In this learning journey, we are off to explore Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) world of food innovation. We'll examine how they use structured problem-solving and workplace learning to help new team members and students develop food prototypes with industry clients.

Find out how NYP fosters a culture of innovation, guiding development through feedback and iteration. You will also have the opportunity to:
•    Tour NYP’s food development labs and see the scientific processes used to refine prototypes.
•    Observe consumer sensory evaluations to understand how NYP collects data on taste, texture, and aroma using professional booths and controlled methods.

Join us to discover how NYP transforms challenges into business opportunities in the food industry.

What Does The Session Cover?

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to identify the journey of turning food ideas into market-ready products through NYP’s innovation process and industry collaboration.
 

Identify the process to co-develop food products, from ideation to prototype, with industry partners. 
Identify how workplace learning is practiced during a food innovation project.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Adult Education: Individuals who are involved in learning design, curriculum development, learning facilitation, assessment of learning competence, learning technology integration and/or providing consultancy and advisory services to drive business performance.
  • Learning Management: Individuals who are involved in management and support of learning programmes, systems and technology management and implementation, quality assurance of learning programmes and/or driving business development.
  • Human Capital Development (HCD): Individuals who are in-company L&D staff who are involved in building employee capabilities to support business needs.

Besides training and development, she also work with organisations to develop their innovation capacity and coach individuals transitioning through their career and life changes.

Beyond the classroom, Stewart is a key contributor to NYP360, a strategic initiative that supports industry transformation across sectors such as food sustainability, advanced manufacturing, and digital healthcare. His work has been featured in Food & Hotel Asia Seminar, and other industries related events, where he champions NYP’s capabilities in food science and cross-disciplinary innovation. Whether mentoring students, collaborating with industry partners, or shaping curriculum development, Stewart exemplifies the spirit of co-creation and lifelong learning.
Julian Chen (Mr)

Julian Chen (Mr)

Lecturer | Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Applied Science
Mr Julian Chen was an Application Technologist working in the food supplier supplying specialty ingredients to food manufacturers in the past 7 years of his career. Graduated from Massey University with a degree in Food Science & Technology, his work covers application of emulsifiers and stabilisers in lipids and bakery applications such as margarine, cake gels and fine foods. Julian has a passion for food processing. Moving on to the education sector, Julian joined Nanyang Polytechnic and would like to impart his experience, knowledge and values from the industry to the current learners in polytechnic.
