What Is The Session About?

The Introduction to Action Learning programme is set to introduce participants to the key skill sets and components of the action learning process. It will cover building coaching skills through a highly experiential and collaborative learning approach with 70 % of the session time dedicated to practice and skill development.

The session will be conducted through a short introduction and presentation on the power of question in building capacity to have good conversation and leading teams to solve real problems. Participants will be working in small teams to learn and develop their skills through application of the action learning process where every participant will take on the key roles of a coach, problem presenter and team member.

A round-robin approach will be conducted with reflection and feedback shared amongst the participants and lead facilitator after every action learning session.

Through small group practice of the problem-solving process, participants will apply their questioning skills and action learning coaches’ skills to support the team in solving the problem and at the same time, learn about their chosen leadership competency. The process will bring learning to the participants at individual, team and organization level. These are built into the process with guided questions to help the participants to reflect on it.

The Action Learning process adopts a design approach of a constructivist which allows learners to explore and respond from their perspective. This pure experience of the current events during the session is leveraged upon, to bring impactful learning to the participants as they are asked to reflect and respond based on questions asked during the process. Through their responses, and the questions of the team members and the coach, participants develop knowledge and ability to apply what they have learnt immediately in the process or after the process.

Brookfields critical lenses is used as a feedback model to deepen the learning of participants. They learn how to allow individual learning and peer learning to be exercised before the subject matter expert shares their observations. This is very powerful from a leader/team/subordinate development approach.
