What Is The Session About?

This intensive workshop equips adult educators with the skills to design and implement inclusive classrooms that cater to the diverse needs of all adult learners. Emphasising practical strategies, this programme provides actionable insights into fostering a learning environment where every individual can thrive.

Key Features of the Workshop:
  • Understanding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Participants will explore the essential principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, focusing on creating a learning environment that respects and supports various learner characteristics including age, ethnicity, learning styles, and disabilities. This foundational knowledge will help in building a classroom culture that values and nurtures all learners.
  • Addressing Common Learning Challenges: The course covers a broad range of learning challenges faced by adult learners with special needs, including learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD), sensory impairments (e.g., visual and auditory), physical disabilities, neurological conditions (e.g., autism spectrum disorder), and mental health issues. Understanding these challenges is crucial for tailoring support and resources effectively.
  • Strategies for an Inclusive Classroom Environment: Learn practical strategies for designing a classroom that is both physically and psychologically accessible. This includes setting up an accessible environment with appropriate assistive technologies, fostering a supportive and respectful classroom culture, and using trauma-informed teaching practices to create a safe and welcoming space.
  • Effective Classroom Management Techniques: Gain insights into managing diverse learning styles and needs with effective instructional techniques and differentiated instruction. This includes varying teaching methods, employing active learning strategies, and implementing classroom management strategies to minimise disruptions and maintain an engaging learning environment.
  • Differentiated Instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Discover how to adapt content, processes, and products to meet individual learner needs. Learn to apply UDL principles to create flexible learning materials and assessments that accommodate a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Collaborative Learning and Cultural Sensitivity: Explore collaborative learning techniques that promote respect and understanding among learners. Develop skills in building positive relationships, understanding cultural differences, and resolving conflicts constructively. Create opportunities for collaborative projects that celebrate diversity and enhance mutual respect.
Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in interactive sessions, group discussions, role-playing,and practical exercises designed to enhance their ability to implement inclusive practices in their educational settings. Payment

Please proceed to make payment via eNets/credit card (VISA or MasterCard) at the end of the registration process. Kindly note that the system will automatically cancel the registration if full payment has not been successfully processed by 11.59pm (Singapore Time) on the same day of the registration. You will have to reapply for the course, subject to availability of vacancy at the point of your re-registration.


Additional Funding Available, If Applicable

Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset the selected programmes' fees for self-sponsored registrations only.


Please note the submission period for your SFC claim via MySkillsFuture needs to be within 60 days before the course start date (date inclusive). If your course start date is more than 60 days from the date of SFC application, the SSG-SFC portal would reject your application. In this case, you would need to pay the full course fees at the end of your course application.


Rescheduling

Request for rescheduling it must be submitted to IAL 2 weeks before the commencement of programme. Reschedule requests that come mid-way through training has to be supported by valid reasons; substantiated by references as evidence; such as a doctor's note; or a hospitalization chit.

S$54.50 w/GST ($50) applies for the request and the next available slot will be offered


Withdrawal

Request for withdrawal from a programme is subjected to review by IAL and the decision is final. IAL reserves the right to request for supporting document(s). A non-refundable administration fee of

S$54.50 w/GST ($50) is applicable for withdrawal request. If the withdrawal notice is given less than 2 weeks before the programme start date, the paid fees will not be refunded.


Corporate Run

For dedicated corporate runs with a contract signed with IAL, billing and payment will follow the terms of the signed contract. Otherwise, payment would be expected upon registration.

Kris Loy (Ms)

Learning Facilitator and Consultant

Kris is a seasoned professional with over 24 years of expertise in HR development, business advisory and consultancy, and adult education. Her multifaceted roles include serving as facilitator, courseware developer, and consultant across training providers. Her recent engagements include contributing to a focal agency in Singapore as an associate assessor, facilitator, and consultant, focusing on inclusive employability. Additionally, she holds an adjunct lecturer position for a Master's programme at a local university. Kris' leadership extends further as she assumes the co-chair position at IAL’s AEN Special Interest Group, emphasising the importance of critical core skills in the Adult Education community.

Her collaborative efforts span various sectors, including continuing education and training, early childhood care, construction, food services, hospitality, landscape, private education, retail, accounting, and transport. Particularly noteworthy is her decade-long commitment to supporting the retail sector's people development needs through tailored education and training programmes. Kris has been actively involved in workplace learning and related initiatives, contributing significantly to over 40 projects across sectors in the last 8 years. Being ACTA/DACE certified, she is also involved in WSQ courseware development for various sectors, including interaction skills to commuters with special needs in the public transport sector and critical core skills development for human resource sector.

Kris brings a wealth of qualifications to her practice, with certifications such as IHRP Certified Professional, Certified Career Practitioner and Singapore Certified Management Consultant. She holds degrees including a Master of Arts in Lifelong Learning (IOE, UCL), a Graduate Diploma in System Analysis (ISS, NUS) and Bachelor of Science in Management (UOM). Her commitment to professional development is evident through certifications as a Workplace Learning Specialist, Specialist Adult Educator, and roles as an AE Mentor and Career Advisor, guiding professionals in the TAE sector. Past appointments as a SkillsFuture Mentor and Business Advisor (with ESG) underscore her extensive contributions to SMEs. Kris’ diverse skills set, coupled with her dedication to continuous learning and mentoring, positions her as a dynamic force in HR development, adult education, and consultancy.
